The free audio toolkit
macOS never had
Record, transcribe, edit by text, mix, master, and level — all in one native app. Edit your podcast by deleting words. No subscriptions. No watermarks. No accounts. Nothing ever leaves your Mac.
Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later · Optimized for Apple Silicon
Podcast & Voice — Transcribe, Edit by Text, Clean Up
Transcribe your recording on-device with word-level timing, then edit your audio by editing the transcript. Delete a word and that word is cut from the audio. Remove silences automatically, reduce background noise per track, and apply a professional voice chain with one click.
- →Transcribe on-device — word-level timestamps, 90+ languages, audio never leaves your Mac
- →Edit by text — delete words in the transcript and the audio recompacts to match
- →Remove silences — detect and tighten dead air automatically
- →Reduce noise — per-track noise reduction for hiss and room tone
Music & Audio — Multitrack, Mix, Master
Lay clips across multiple tracks, mix with real faders, pan, mute, and solo. Every track gets an effects rack plus a master bus: EQ, compressor, limiter, reverb, delay, and pitch, simple by default with advanced controls nearby.
- →Multitrack timeline — import, place, split, trim, and drag clips between tracks
- →Live mixer — vertical faders, pan, mute, and solo in real time
- →Effects rack — per-track inserts plus master bus
- →Master presets — Podcast Voice, Music Master, Warm, Bright, Limiter Only, and more
Record, Arrange, Shape
Record voiceovers straight into a track, drop audio from Finder, and arrange on a clear timeline with a playhead. Split at any point, trim from the edges, fade clips in and out, and change speed without changing pitch.
- →Voiceover recording — record directly into your project
- →Import widely — mp3, m4a, wav, aiff, aac, caf, flac, and more
- →Non-destructive editing — split, trim, and fades never alter your source audio
- →Speed control — 0.5x to 2.0x per track, pitch preserved
Master & Export — LUFS-Accurate, Platform-Ready
Real loudness measurement with true-peak limiting means exports never clip. Auto-Level matches your audio to where it is going. What you hear in playback is exactly what exports: every edit, level, and effect.
- →LUFS export — targets for podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and broadcast
- →Auto-Level — measure and match loudness automatically, on-device
- →True-peak safe — limiter caps exports so they never clip
- →Export formats — M4A, WAV, and AIFF
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Is Waveforge really free?
Yes — completely free, forever. No in-app purchases, no subscription, no watermarks. It exists because the developer wanted a simple, private, native audio tool and couldn't find one.
How does editing by text work?
Waveforge transcribes your recording on-device with word-level timing. You edit the transcript like a document — delete a word and that segment of audio is cut. What you hear in playback is exactly what exports.
Does my audio get uploaded anywhere?
No. Waveforge has zero network access. Transcription runs entirely on your Mac. Your audio, recordings, and transcripts never leave your device.
Does it use FFmpeg?
No. Waveforge is built on Apple's native audio stack: AVFoundation and AVAudioEngine, plus on-device speech recognition. No GPL dependencies, no bloat, App Store sandbox compliant.
Can I use it for music, not just podcasts?
Yes. Music & Audio mode is a multitrack mixer with per-track and master-bus effects, faders, pan, fades, per-track speed, and mastering presets.
