Privacy Policy
Effective date: March 29, 2026 · Last updated: March 29, 2026
Our core principle: your data stays on your Mac
MacTab is designed with privacy as a default. The app does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data outside your own device. There are no accounts, no cloud sync, and no analytics.
What data MacTab accesses
To save and restore your workspace, MacTab reads the following information on your Mac:
| Data | Purpose | Stored |
|---|---|---|
| Browser tab URLs and titles | Save your open tabs as part of a MacTab | Locally on your Mac only |
| Running application names and bundle IDs | Capture and restore your app environment | Locally on your Mac only |
| Finder folder paths | Restore open Finder windows | Locally on your Mac only |
| Terminal session working directories | Restore terminal paths | Locally on your Mac only |
| Apple Notes titles | Save notes context | Locally on your Mac only |
All of this data is stored in a local SwiftData database on your device. It never leaves your Mac.
What MacTab does not do
- Does not collect any personal information
- Does not transmit any data to external servers
- Does not use analytics, crash reporting, or tracking libraries
- Does not store passwords, cookies, or browser session tokens
- Does not sync to iCloud, third-party clouds, or any remote service
- Does not show ads
- Does not require an account of any kind
Permissions
Accessibility
Used to post keyboard events for macOS Spaces integration (Mission Control shortcuts). This permission is optional — the app works without it, but Space behaviour features will not function.
Automation (AppleScript)
Used to read open browser tabs, terminal paths, and Notes titles from other applications. macOS will ask for your permission the first time MacTab contacts each application. You can manage or revoke these at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation.
Data retention
All MacTab data is stored locally and is deleted when you delete the app or manually remove a saved MacTab. We have no access to this data and cannot recover it on your behalf.
Children's privacy
MacTab does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13. The app collects no personal data regardless of age.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date above and post the updated policy at 3nsofts.com/mactab/privacy.
